Vtg 1988 Pennsyl Amish AROUND THE WORLD Lap Crib Quilt/Wall Hanging 36x36 signed

Description: My late sister and I were both Pennsylvania born and raised, though admittedly on the "other" side of the state from Pennsylvania Dutch country. In our adult years, separately, we both made lots of trips there, though (I did it more for the root beer and soft pretzels, to be honest, which are fantastic!); she would have gone for the handicrafts. I showed this to a 92-year-old quilting friend and she told me the cardinal rule of quality was the number of stitches per inch, which she says should be at least 9. Well, the gazillion 3/4" little squares have 9 stitches, which I guess works out as 12 per inch. The blue quilted boundary around the squares is 6-1/4" deep and the black outside border is a half-inch. That leaves the interior square of squares at 21-1/4 x 21-1/4". I'm embarrassed to admit that, despite my advanced age, I still can't say for certain what the material is. I showed some close-ups so that you might use your wisdom. It has a slight sheen to it that makes me think a synthetic fabric, e.g. a polyester of some sort. The fact that the outside black border faded but the rest did not makes me hypothesize that it is cotton and the rest isn't. But I simply don't know. The fact that it's signed by "Quilting Friends" suggests this wasn't a one-person piece, nor their first, since it's numbered "#3". I love the idea of this being a cooperative piece.
