Vintage Weller Pottery Red Gourd Ollas Water Pitcher Jug Orange Underplate & Lid

Description: Vintage Weller Pottery Red Gourd Ollas Water Pitcher Jug with Orange Underplate & Lid! Weller Pottery Ollas Water Gourd/Jug with an Underplate; Harder to find the underplate with the water pitcher gourd! Even though the underplate is orange, the underplates are very hard to come by and make this a complete set. Bottom of gourd is unglazed. Top of gourd, lid, are red and underplate is orange. True red glazes back in the day were difficult to find back in the 1920s and 1930s and were not super common. The orange underplate is also hard to find today. Marked on bottom of gourd with hand incised "Weller." The words “Weller” and “Weller Pottery” were incised by hand on pots from 1927 to 1933, which dates this piece to that time frame. The underplate was essential because they were originally water pitchers and the bottom was unglazed because you would put your water in it, and the water would naturally seep through the water pitcher very slowly to help keep the water cool - and thus the underplate would loose its glaze over time since it would be wet a lot of the time. Condition: Overall very good to excellent vintage preowned condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs any of the pieces. Red glaze is bright and shiny. Underplate has little to no wear from use and the orange glaze is still on. Pieces may have small factory production imperfections such as sand bumps, glaze skips, glaze pops, etc. Little to no issues on these pieces. See all pictures.
