Description: This plate dates to 1975, and was made specifically for the Japan Expo '75 World's Fair of that year taking place in Okinawa. This porcelain plate features a labeled map of Okinawa, a geisha, two foo (lion) dogs and other little fun stuff. The Japanese characters and their English spelling equivalent "Mensoore", meaning "Welcome" are on the bottom-right. Part of the reason to have the fair in Okinawa was to commemorate the handover of the island back to Japan from U.S. control in 1972. The main themes of the Expo were the world's oceans, marine life, oceanographic technology and cultures. The plate measures at 10" diameter. Condition is Excellent, with no chips or cracks. Please see photos and feel free to ask questions.
