The sound provides a unique controllable fuzz and distortion, and was made popular by Norman Greenbaum's signature sound in the song, Spirit in the Sky. It was also widely used by Randy California on his work with the band, Spirit. It later became popular for many Nashville pedal steel guitar players. Although the unit is used, it is fully functional.
