Description: This is a vintage silk tie featuring a Piero Fornasetti design consisting of pencils and rulers with the odd paper clip thrown in. I think that the design is known as “Strumenti Da Disegno” - instruments of design - items that Fornasetti used daily in his design work. Fornasetti’s name appears throughout the design as well as a few iconic Fornasetti motifs such as the anthropomorphic sun. Fornasetti (1913-1988) issued his first tie collection in 1980, which only consisted of two designs. In 1990, Intermoda of Como, Italy was licensed to manufacture Fornasetti neckwear - the lack of the Intermoda name on this tie indicates that the tie dates to the 1980s. The tie measures 4” in width and 60” in length. The design is in multiple colours including red, white, yellow, blue and black. It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odours - this is ready to wear. This particular Fornasetti design appears to be rare on a tie - one sees pencil holders with a similar theme, but not ties. Striking print - great tie for the graphic designer, wearable art!
