Description: Vintage Antique Tarahumara Indian Clay Pot Vessel Rawhide Wrapped Pottery The Tarahumara, also known as Raramuri, are the indigenous people of the Sierra Madre Occidental. Local artist have been making this style of pottery for thousands of years, made by hand without a wheel. They start by pinching and coiling the clay, then scraping or burnishing with a wood stick or stone to smooth the clay before firing. The Tarahumara Indians live in the remote regions of the Sierra Madre Mountains in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. They are northern Mexico's largest indigenous Indian tribes, and are a nomadic people who typically live in several different dwellings during the year, including caves. This vessel is 3 1/2" Tall.
