Description: Vietnam War Vietnamese Army PAVN / NVA Police Reissue Named Soviet SSh-68 Helmet This is a unique and salty helmet with a lot of interesting history. Originally starting out its life as a Soviet SSh-68 helmet, it eventually ended up in the service of North Vietnam as a part of Soviet aid to them during the war. Photographs exist of Vietnamese troops using these helmets, both during the Vietnam War and during the 1979 Sino-Vietnamese War. Judging by the scratched out “CSCD” letters on the side of the helmet, it was used by the Vietnamese Mobile Police, essentially a paramilitary arm of the regular police. The removal of these letters imply that this helmet was either decommissioned or further reissued in the Vietnamese army or reserves. It has been fitted with a standard Vietnamese police badge. This helmet has unsurprisingly seen a lot of wear, with the combination of likely use in two wars and Vietnam’s humid climate. The outside paint has fading, with noticeable rust marks going over where the letters were removed. There also appears to also be some sort of camouflage paint scheme. The original Soviet oilcloth liner is in fairly delicate shape, with the adjusting string damaged. There is also the remnant of a Vietnamese reissue chinstrap, made of some sort of synthetic fiber. There is a name, “Hoang”, under one of the oilcloth flaps. Overall a very uncommon Vietnamese reissue helmet that will display quite nicely. Reasonable offers are more than welcome. I am always open to communication or negotiation and am more than happy to do combined shipping.
