This type of locket would usually have a loved ones photo and a segment of hair / article of clothing worn by the loved one that died in battle or remembered by the family. It was designed to hold hair behind glass / missing from this locket . I did no cleaning or anything , this is how it was found when I purchased it. in small print words Nickel/ silver appears top of locket inside Possible manufacturer WABCO ( little could be found on this maker ) Tintypes , also know as ferrotypes, were popularized in the United states during the civil war era. The tintype was more durable and less expensive than other photographic mediums, such as the ambrotype or daguerreotype. This 20.5 Gram 1 1/2 " X 1 1/2 " locket with President Lincolns photo came from an eighty year old California woman whos mother as a child wore the locket. It has been in the same family for over 100 years plus . It also comes with a Local News story from Monrovia California where the photo locket was on display . The Library and a Historian in Hollywood stated it might be a inauguration pin from the 1865 election. This locket has been in the same family since 1865 and I am the first to have it third person actually. The newspaper article is also included where the family had the locket on display in the 1970's Centennial ? Also included is a letter from The Abraham Lincoln Book shop in Chicago Illinois stating the photo was for Lincolns second nomination for president.
