Description: This print is from a rare portfolio of high quality photogravure prints of the University of Illinois dating from about 1917. It depicts Lincoln Hall, erected in honor of the President who signed the Morrill Land Grant Act into law, laying the foundations of what we know today as the University of Illinois. In 1909, 100 years after his birth, the $250,000 building was approved by the state legislature, and it was ready for occupation by 1911. PLEASE NOTE: there are some minor fox marks, one in the sky area of the print-- see scans. They show up darker here in the picture than on the print. The photogravure process yields prints with very smooth tones and lots of detail, without the halftone dot pattern of modern printing methods. This would look wonderful framed. This incredibly beautiful photogravure is single-sided and on thick paper. It has a blank back. The page measures approx. 6.75 x 4.75 inches, and the actual image area is about 3.6 x 5.5 inches.
