Description: Museum Quality Dire Wolf Claw Core/Distal Phalanx Aenocyon dirusFound in the Aucilla River, North Florida 1" long, 1/2" tall, 3/8" widest point Incredibly unique and beyond rare Dire Wolf Distal phalanx/Claw core. One of the best I've seen and the best I've sold. These claw cores are exceptionally rare and delicate, being a part of these extinct carnivores that rarely mineralizes. This fossil is solid, glossy black, and heavily mineralized. Stained jet black from the tannin and sulphur springs rich waters of the Aucilla river in North Florida, one of the few locations that claws of this species are found in any numbers. This is a spectacular fossil of a famous Ice Age carnivore, and is one of the most hard to find fossils from these rare predators.
