Description: THE NEW NONSENSE: END OF RATIONAL CONSENSUS CHARLES FAIR 1974 1st ED HC DJ VG This 1st edition RARE hardcover book, by a brilliant neuroscientist with a sense of humor, is in Very Good Plus condition with its dust jacket lightly faded in a few places on the front, frayed ends at top of spine and light edge wear. The dark blue cloth-covered boards have the title imprinted on the spine in silver. The cover has a light mark that doesn’t pierce the cloth. Front endpapers include a penciled price and a name stamp by its original owner. Spine is straight and strong. All 288 pages intact and clean of markings. Charles Maitland Fair (1916-2014) was an American neuroscience researcher and writer. In this fascinating volume, Fair examines human behavior and cultural criticism. He analyzed how we embrace non-rational ideas or beliefs in the face of contradictory evidence, and saw it as a harbinger of social collapse 50 years ago. It seems Mr. Fair—an American scientist and writer who lived from the late Victorian age through WW1, WW2, the Great Depression, the Cold War, the Civil Rights movement, Woodstock, the moon landing, Watergate, the Vietnam War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, AIDS, domestic terrorism, school shootings, computer technology and the emergence of Facebook, Google and Amazon, the year 2000, the September 11, 2001 attack, and the explosive growth of Wikipedia, which now has plenty of information about Mr. Fair—had a fair amount of nonsense to consider. I’d hazard a guess that he would have plenty to say about the new nonsense that’s been going on in the 50 years since he wrote this revolutionary book in 1974. Shipped via USPS Media Mail
