Description: The Last Word 45 rpm Can’t Stop Loving You Lombardo/Byrnes) Don’t Fight It (Wilson Picket-Steve Cropper) ATCO 1967 This single has been grossly overlooked! This BAND was grossly overlooked… Originally from New York, the band formed in 66 and relocated to South Florida, hooking up with producer Steve Alaimo of “Where the Action Is” fame and an alum of many Dick Clark tours. Band consisted of Mike Byrnes on guitar, Roger Cook on drums, vocalist Johnny Lombardo and Steve Sechak on keyboards. Their original, Can’t Stop Loving You, is kind of Rascals meets ? and the Mysterians and I even found a newspaper article comparing them to the Mysterians so it isnt just me lol The flip Don’t Fight It, a composition of two Southern Soul legends, Wilson Pickett and Steve Cropper (if you don’t know who Steve Cropper is, well you don’t know music lol) This is a pretty interesting blend of garage rock and southern Stax Records type soul strung together with some psych fuzz guitar…sorta pre-Blues Brother…again, the Cropper curve… Played this on 2 turntables—not too noisy though it has surface blemishes. No skips on my equipment. Cannot speak for yours. Not a pro on grading but imo would be about VG+ overall. Label clean except a tiny sticker from indexing (37) Will include a couple repro newspaper articles about this record from FL newspapers at no charge. Buyer pays shipping.
