Description: Aladdin 1240 variegated Verde Vase LampTruly Excellent ConditionNo cracksNo Chips that Show When Font Installed Manufactured by Aladdin in 1930-1931 Vase Glass Condition I’m a decades-long Aladdin collector. Several vase lamps have passed through my hands. Most had had various flaws, including large chips, cracks, and various types of imperfections in the paint. The glass on this lamp is truly excellent. The paint is uniform and flawless. There are no cracks. Does have the usual rim flea bites due to the font being inserted many times over the years. But none of those flea bites show when the font is installed, and there are no large chips in the rim. The gold painted foot is in excellent condition with no chips or damage, which is also unusual for these old bass lamps. Model 12 Burner and Font Condition This is one of the best Model 12 burner I’ve seen. The Model 12 burner and font assembly are complete and working properly. Burner includes burner body, outer wick tube, wick, raiser, gallery, and flame spreader. The burner is in perfect condition - highly polished and no dents or damage. Font includes fill cap and is in good condition with one tiny imperfection that is so small that it is difficult to see in Photograph #7 (“Font Side 2”). The imperfection is directly in front, facing you on the top surface. History and Background Information The following is from the Authoritative AladdinCollector.com website.> Click here for info on all the 12-incha vase lamps.> Click here for info on this 1240 Variegated Verde vase lamp. “The large 12-inch vase lamps were the first glass lamps to be manufactured by the Aladdin Mantle Lamp Company in the Alexandria, Indiana glass plant. They used the oil font from the 1251 and 1252 floor lamps being manufactured at that time, and the glass vase itself was also used to make electric lamps. They were very expensive lamps for that era selling for $11.50 without a shade which was considerably more expensive than the Model 12 table lamps being sold at the time. They were however a quite colorful addition to and inventory that had consisted of metal lamps to this point. For all their color and artistry sadly the cost of these large vase lamps put them out of reach of all but the more affluent people. This fact limited their sales and contributed greatly to making them some of the hardest Aladdin lamps for collectors to find. The 12-inch Variegated Verde vase lamp is a clear glass vase that was painted green on the inside then fired to cure the paint. When the process was complete, the variegated paint scheme, along with the painted gold band at the bottom of the vase, were hand applied. While each lamp produced is an individual due to the hand painted variegated design, the paint scheme did not vary a great degree like it does with the variegated tan vase lamp. The variegated tan vase lamp, and the variegated Verde, have the variegated paint finish applied to the outside of the vase. If you touch the vase, you can feel the paint on the outside of them.” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
