Stamp to verso reads: “Don’t Miss — Foreman Phillips County Barn Dance, Every Friday - Saturday - Sunday Nites, Spade Cooley’s Barn Dance Boys, Vince Pier (Venice California).” Although both Spade Colley and his wife Ella Mae Evans both signed this photo, they are not pictured in this photo (trimmed, uneven fading, general creases and wear, black paper residue at verso from being pasted into a scrapbook, else good, see photos). Spade Cooley (1910 - 1969), radio personality and country music star, was infamous for brutally killing his wife Ella Mae Evans, who also signed this photograph. The couple was notoriously jealous, both having affairs during their marriage. She confessed to an affair with Roy Rogers to a friend. Cooley was convicted of her murder in 1961 and spent the rest of his life in jail. Although he was paroled, he died before the parole was enacted.
