Description: Handmade man's velvet smoking cap or lounging cap, size medium. The cap is made of green cotton velvet. The round cap is 23" in circumference and 4" tall. It has a lining of woven green and cream colored 100% cotton plaid with an inner lining of quilt batting for warmth. The cap is decorated with 1 1/2" wide woven ribbon. The ribbon has a cream colored background with circle motifs in black with a silver gray and light green. An inverted V-shaped matching ribbon is held in place with a vintage button. The button is made of clear Lucite around the outside edge framing a center motif of roses made of copper colored metal.During Victorian and Edwardian times, after dinner, gentlemen left the ladies and gathered to smoke their cigars and share a drink. In order to spare the ladies the smell of smoke gentlemen would frequently don their "smoking jacket and smoking cap" which could be removed, along with the smoke smell. Civil War re-enactors enjoy wearing the warm caps on a cool evening around the campfire. Steam punk, Edwardian, cigar club members, or any distinguished gentleman, will enjoy the cap.
