Description: Up for sale is a RARE original copper engraved antique map of HUNTINGTON-SHIRE by Robert Morden (d. 1703) from Camden's English Version of Britannia. NOTE: Robert Morden was an English bookseller, publisher, and maker of maps and globes. He was among the first successful commercial map makers. Huntingdonshire (note spelling) is a non-metropolitan district in Cambridgeshire, England. The map has lots of topographical detail and shows numerous place names. Some of the features on the map are towns, villages, rivers, hills, roads, bridges, estates and forests. The map is on robust light weight, hand laid paper and has a beautiful decorated title cartouche. The map is greatly enhanced with later added hand coloring. Scales of great, middle and small miles in the bottom left corner. It is blank of the reverse side. It measures approximately 15 1/2" x 17 1/2", including the border area. The map is in Fair+ condition. There is some age related browning and staining, particularly along the edges. There are several chips and tears along the edges. The bottom edge is creased and has several longer tears. The corners are chipped, and there are some creases along the borders. The map has a crease/fold line down the middle from when it was originally bound. There are also a few holes along the crease at the top from when it was pulled from the Britannia (see photo #8 above). There are some pencil notes along the border by previous owner.Other dings here and there. Still this is a GREAT MAP and will look fabulous when framed! These antique maps are a fabulous piece of history! Please email me with any questions and see my store for other great items. Inventory R-22
