Rare 1952 Texans vs Giants ticket - NFL Debut of Frank Gifford & Gino Marchetti!

Description: Very rare ticket from the 1952 NFL regular season game between the New York Giants and the Dallas Texans played on 9/28/1952 in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The Giants defeated the Texans 24-6 in front of a crowd of only 17,499! This ticket is extremely significant. It was the NFL debut of two NFL Hall of Famers...Frank Gifford and Gino Marchetti. In addition, it was the first NFL game of the Dallas Texans! Note Worthpoint only shows 3 of these tickets having sold over the last 15 years and this is one of them showing how rare this ticket is (not surprising considering the low attendance for this game...17.499). This ticket is definitely worth submitting to PSA for grading. Looking at the PSA pop report it shows 2 tickets for this game having been submitted and graded (see photo). Frank Gifford played halfback, flanker, and safety for the New York Giants from 1952-1964 with the exception of the 1961 season when he temporarily retired from football after the infamous hit in which he was knocked unconscious by Chuck Bendarik of the Eagles and received a severe concussion. He was awarded the Comeback Player of the Year in 1962 when he returned to the Giants. Frank was an NFL champion in 1956 when he was also the NFL MVP. Frank was a 6 time First-Team All-Pro and played in a total of 8 Pro Bowls. The Giants retired his #16. Gifford was also a First-Team All-American in 1951 with the USC Trojans where he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame and was drafted #11 overall in the first round of the 1952 NFL draft. Gifford would go on to a lengthy NFL broadcasting career including calling Monday Night Football games for 27 years with legends Don Meredith and Howard Cosell. Gino Marchetti played defensive end and offensive tackle for the Dallas Texans and Baltimore Colts from 1952-1964 and 1966. He was a two time NFL champion with the Colts in 1958 and 1959. He was a 9 time first team All-Pro from 1956-1964 and a 2nd team All-Pro in 1955 and played in 11 consecutive Pro Bowls between 1954 and 1963. He was the 1960 NFL leader in sacks. Gino was chosen for the NFL 1950 All-Decade Team as well as the 50th, 75th, and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams (Gino was one of only 6 players selected to all three anniversary teams along with his Colt's teammate Johnny Unitas). He served in the US army form 1944-1946 and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. The 1952 Dallas Texans season was the franchise's only season in the league while in Dallas after moving from New York, where they were previously known as the Yanks, and the continuation of the Boston Yanks and New York Bulldogs. The franchise continued to struggle immensely and lost their first nine games, finishing 1–11, the worst record in the 12-team league. After its seventh game, the franchise was returned to the NFL on November 14. The Texans' home game against the Chicago Bears was moved to Thanksgiving and to the Rubber Bowl in Akron, Ohio, and was their only victory. The final home game with the Lions was moved to Briggs Stadium in Detroit. Texans franchise was returned to the league Nov 14, 1952 and after they couldn't find a buyer for the team, the franchise was cancelled. The NFL had a hole in their calendar where the Texans were originally and awarded a brand new franchise to the Colts in January of 1953. NFL says that they consider the Colts as a 1953 expansion team; it does not consider the Colts to be a continuation of the Yanks/Bulldogs/Yanks/Texans franchise. As the Colts were a new team with no players and the Texans players were available, many signed with the Colts although others signed with other NFL teams (see below) The physical assets were purchased by Carroll Rosenbloom in 1953, and became known as the Colts in Baltimore, Maryland, with Hall of Famers Gino Marchetti and Art Donovan amongst others signed with the Colts. This ticket is in great condition (VG, but judge for yourself) and displays exceptionally well. There small creases where the stub was torn at the game and there are small staple holes at base where ticket was held in season ticket booklet (other '63 Browns tickets show the same holes in the same location.
