The real first edition of this classic work by Albert C. Barnes. It "Represents an effort to set forth briefly the salient features of a systematic study of both old and modern paintings. The experience has developed a method that has been in use for more than ten years, with results so encouraging that a plan embodying it has been installed as a part of the course in Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania." (preface). The Art in Painting was privately published by the Barnes Foundation Press in a first edition of 1,000 copies and predates the Harcourt Brace & Co. first edition that was published in 1926. It has since been revised and reprinted. Also included is a 4-page pamphlet from the Barnes Foundation for this and other books published by the Barnes Foundation Press (see photo)
