Description: This is a very RARE 1883 Women’s Relief Corps medal. The Grand Army of Republic Medal was from a Civil War Vets Reunion. The WRC was founded in 1883 as an auxiliary organization to the GAR, a fraternal organization for honorably discharged Union veterans of the Civil War. The WRC's goals included supporting the GAR's mission to help Union veterans, assisting former Army nurses, and promoting patriotism through education. The WRC's founding members had to write rules and regulations that the GAR would approve of, and these rules generally followed the GAR's guidelines. One of the WRC's main objectives was to "maintain true allegiance to the United States of America" and teach patriotism and "love of country" It’s about 3.3” tall. It’s in good condition.
