Description: Beautiful and rare fruit with a strange appearance! It is related to the abiu (P. caimito) but resembles a golden brown rambutan in appearance! The flavor is also sweeter than abiu with a tres leches caramel flan taste and silky smooth pulp. This one is a real winner for flavor, unique appearance as well as cold tolerance. It is native to highland regions from Guatemala to Colombia and can take brief light frost without damage making it a much more practical species than the abiu for subtropical growers. A truly special species for any rare collector! This will be the only one I am parting with. I aim to grow the rest out for a lifetime of enjoyment.
