Laughlin #8 - MIKE "KING" KELLY ~ Boston Beaneaters & Reds, Chicago White Stockings (Cubs), Cincinnati Reds & Kelly's Killers & New York Giants Pioneers of Baseball This card comes from an interesting 28 card set of Baseball Pioneers issued by Fleer (with text by R. G. Laughlin) in 1974. Now approaching 50 years old, this card is becoming increasingly difficult to find in top condition. The card design features a photograph of the player mounted with photo corners. The player's name, position and years of play are framed in a nameplate on the sepia fronts. The backs carry the set name (Pioneers of Baseball) above the player biography. The card is numbered at the bottom. It is a rather odd card size (approximately 2-1/2" by 4") but will fit snugly in 6-pocket sheets available at most quality baseball card shops and better regional card shows. The subject is a longtime member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, having been elected in 1945.
