Oil painting. E. Hansen: ”House in the marshland”

Description: ARTIST: Unknown. The previous owner makes a strong case, that the artist is Ernst Hansen(1892-1968), and there’s a small plaquette on the front of the frame and an envelope with paper clips etc., which suggests this. I am, however, not convinced. First of all, Ernst Hansen is much more known for his drawings, litographs and graphic works, although he did produce some oil paintings as well, but more importantly, I can not match the signature on this painting with any known Ernst Hansen signatures in my art books. So, even if the artist might actually be Ernst Hansen, I’d rather play safe and leave it as unknown. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is an evocative rendering of a small, thatched house located in a marshland environment. 2 wind-blown trees and a threatening overcast sky also help to induce the feeling of a very harsh landscape. One of the notes in the envelope suggests, that the location of the house might be near Ringkøbing Fjord, which is a bay located near the North Sea, and taking the landscape depicted in the painting into consideration, this is definitely possible. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1950-1970. Signed: “E Hansen” in the lower right corner. SIZE: With frame: 45,5 cm/17.9" * 39,5 cm/15.6". Without frame: 32 cm/12.6" * 26 cm/10.2". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint, but it has a faint stretcher mark to the left. The frame has scratches and stains.
