Description: NEW YORK CITY - Times Square - Neon Theater Signs : Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment hub, and neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, New York, U.S. It is formed by the junction of Broadway, Seventh Avenue, and 42nd Street. Together with adjacent Duffy Square, Times Square is a bowtie-shaped plaza five blocks long between 42nd and 47th Streets. This card shows a number of neon signs for the Astor Theater, the Gaiety Theater, The Strand, the B. F. Keith Palace Theater. Also, there is a sign for Fatima Turkish Cigarettes. Fatima Cigarettes (pronounced fa-TEE-ma) was an American brand of cigarettes, owned and manufactured by the Liggett & Myers tobacco company. Fatima was launched in the 1870s and was marketed as an exotic blend of Turkish tobaccos. It was one of the first brands to be made on a cigarette machine. The name Fatima, a common Turkish or Arab woman's name, helped bolster the Turkish image. This Divided Back Era (1907-15) postcard is in good condition. H. Finkelstein & Son. No. R-50872.
