It's very easy to deal from a secondary coastal base (especially West Coast). One of the sure ways to tell is the length of time it takes to mail it to you. Anything over 7 -10 days be suspicious. 14-21 days be very suspicious. More than that? Forget about it. But if it's secondary from a base in the U.S., like California, the only way to tell is to examine it, but then you need a genuine Neca version to compare it to. Sometimes the cost gives it away, if it's just too low. Neca is not cheap, so a 7 inch predator for under $20 be suspicious. Or a 12-inch for under $100, or an 18-inch for under $200? Be wary my friend. I know it sounds cliche but you really do get what you pay for sometimes and if if seems too cheap...maybe it is...and it will fall apart in a few days on you.
