Description: NAPOLEON BONAPARTE, large document signed as Emperor of France, dated June 4, 1811 from St. Cloud and countersigned by French General Henri Jacques Guillaume Clarke as "Duc du Feltre" concerning the Prince of Eckmuhl, Louis Nicolas Davout. Bonaparte adds "accordé" (approved) in his hand. Davout, a strict disciplinarian known as "The Iron Marshal" was considered one of Napoleon's finest military commanders. Includes handsome, small 3.5" x 4" original antique engraving of Bonaparte as Commander In Chief of all military forces. After divorcing Joséphine (who was unable to bear any children with Napoleon), Napoleon marries Marie-Louise, daughter of the emperor of Austria, in 1810. On March 20, 1811, Marie-Louise bears him a son, Napoleon II, King of Rome. Just 5 days after this document was signed, the King of Rome was christened. It was also in 1811 that future Waterloo victor and British General Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, and his troops would suffer a defeat at the hands of the French army at Redinha.
