Marx (1898-?) was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended school at the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia University, the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and the University of Illinois where he studied landscape architecture. During World War I, Marx held the rank of Major in the Air Corps, and served as an illustrator for the Official History of the 9th Air Force.
