Description: MCM Hollywood Regency Gold on Sterling Silver Japaned Lantern Happiness Kanji Screw Back Earrings. These are really beautiful little vintage earrings. They are done in Sterling silver in the shape of a Chinese lantern with engraved decorations around the periphery of the lantern. The sterling silver bodies have a gold wash over them, and then are Japaned on top of that, meaning there is a layer of black coloring, possibly enamel on top of the gold wash that is on top of the sterling silver body. The lanterns hang from a little onyx cabochon that is attached to the sterling silver screw back. It is approximately 35 mm from the top of the cabochon to the bottom of the lantern, and each lantern is about 22 mm in diameter. On the back of each lantern at the bottom is the word silver, and on the handle of each earring, it says sterling. These are mid century modern meaning they were made in the 1950s more than likely an are in beautifully perfect condition for that age. I’ve never seen another pair like this and they’re really nice.
