Description: STELLAR LATE 19th CENTURY FLORENTINE SILVER-GILT SHELL CAMEO A remarkable achievement in artistry and old world craftsmanship. Baby Jesus, head and arms of beatific Mary are sensitively high relief carved of opaque cream shell. Halo and diaphanous elements of the robe expose butterscotch color - effectively used to frame the blessed figures. Highly intricate and exceptionally beautiful carving, this was made by someone of exceptional skill. The gilt-silver bezel is adorned with filigree decoration. Delicate wire scroll filigree with granulation encircles the thick concave shell. I was told this is made of 800+ silver with gold vermeil, but it has not been tested for metal content. The back is mounted with a pendant bale, hinged for concealment when the cameo is worn as a brooch. The pin is secured in a barrel clasp. Unmarked. Maintained in original condition, with minor bumps to the wire; an experienced jeweler can easily rectify the wire wear. Please study the photographs and review descriptive information. 1.8" (4.6 cm) high (not including hinged bale), 1-3/8" wide 11.7 grams Shipped fast via USPS
