Description: Recently, the Ishpeming Area Historical Society (IAHS), a non-profit organization, were granted custody of a number of law books that once belonged to John D. Voelker. The law books date back to when John was the Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney as they are identified with his ink name stamp "John D. Voelker/Prosecuting Attorney" on the front free end page. IAHS sought and was granted permission from the Voelker family to sell a number of the volumes in order to raise funds to further the societies goals of preserving the history of the Ishpeming area. The eBay site this volume is being sold through, belongs to David White, IAHS Board Member, and editor of the society's newsletter. Known and assumed provenance. It is assumed that a different times, John D. Voelker had these volumes in his office in the Marquette County Courthouse, his office on the second floor of the Woolworth's building (Voelker Block) in downtown Ishpeming, and possibly his homes in Ishpeming on Barnum Street and on Deer Lake Road. At some point the City of Ishpeming gained possession of the volumes and were displayed in the city hall. Presently, custody of the volumes has passed to the Ishpeming Area Historical Society. The volume for sale in this listing is: Michigan Reports, Cases Decided in the Supreme Court of Michigan, from September 29 to December 29, 1911, Volume 167. The volume shows some use with some wear on the leather but is still in Very Good condition. The hinges and the binding are tight. The pages are clean and crisp. John D. Voelker was born, raised and lived most of his life in Ishpeming, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. John graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1928, served as Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney for 14 years, and was appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court on January 2, 1957, serving on the court for three years. John retired from the Michigan Supreme Court in January 1960 so he could spend more time with his passion, trout fishing, and writing his books under his pen name Robert Traver. John was the author of 11 books, including the bestselling novel, Anatomy of a Murder, later made into the blockbuster film by Director Otto Preminger. If you wish to know more about John Voelker (Robert Traver), and or the history of the Ishpeming area, please visit the IAHS website (www.ishpeminghistory.org) where the society's newsletters are available, in which, since the Winter 2021 issue, a series of narrative bibliographies have been published concerning John's books. You may also join the society from the website and henceforth receive the newsletter through the mail. Volume will be shipped by USPS Ground Advantage. Shipping outside the U.S.A. at cost. If you have any questions about this book, please ask. Thanks. David White
