Jerry West led the Mountaineers past Navy, but ultimately lost a thriller in overtime to “Satch” Sanders and NYU. NYU went on to represent the East in the Final Four and were promptly dismissed by John Havlicek, Jerry Lucas and the Ohio St Buckeyes. The Buckeyes were then shockingly (to everyone except those on the West Coast) blown out by 20 points in the Final at the hands of the Cal Bears.Lovely historical program.
