Description: The original zine? A time capsule of yester-today. This is in glorious ratty condition-- grunge and funked out battered and skull fry blues, as if fermenting in Janis Joplin's back pocket. You can see it in the scanned pictures here. Just the way Jerry would have wanted it, well, once upon a time Jerry, RIP. The lowest rating I can choose is "acceptable" and that is pushing it though if you think the medium is the message well a little wear and molotov tear is, oh I dunno', authentic? A frisson of battle? Buyer be aware: shabby shabby shabby! There is a used bookstore stamp on the inside cover (found art?) and I scrawled "Abbie = Barry Fried Fineview N.Y." on the back and though I do not recall any "Fineview" I did get to bring Abbie Hoffman to speak at my school in the mid-Eighties and he was fan-tas-tic. At the time, I thought he was kind of bougie and complacent with his middle aged activist friends who came up with him but I was an insufferable earnest undergrad. Abbie played his schtick (so well!) to raise money for Save The River. Even underground-- clearly, above ground at this time-- he walked the walk. But I digress. Funny to see that written on the back of this book after I scan it. Great gift for academics, boomers, Luigi fans, punk rockers, maybe even the financial analyst that screwed you around. I dunno'. Best I can tell, and I am no antiquarian, this is a first edition. Check out the picture of that page and how it aligns with first editions. It's a shabby shaggy little bomb of a book. Gory picture of dead Che. Picture of very naked Sixties hairy woman serving a severed pigs head: "They dressed as waiters at a big feast of lieral senators at the Hilton. J, W, Fulbright, J. Kenneth Gallbraith and Ed Muskie, expecting their dessert of apple pie and coffee, instead were served pigs' heads on platters. Then Robin and Sharon stripped and stoody radiantly naked before the thousands of middle-class people. Horrified women hid their eyes. Men giggled and stared. Shelley Winters threw her cocktail at them." You can throw a cocktail at the book if you wish. BTW Abbie Hoffman told me "Jawdge, Jawdge, da trouble witchoo iz yer stuck in da Sixties"-- this in the mid-Eighties. He also pushed my car out of a snowbank. Now it is Swedish Death Clean time. My memories (though fading) remain. Time for this book to tickle someone else's synapses.
