Description: Artist: Janet Holmes (American) I believe this was her masterpiece and favorite work. I have seen single cat portraits she has done but nothing to this degree and this large. Medium: oil on canvas Dates: around mid 1930’s-exact age is unknown as painting is not dated. Signature: Front lower right Measures: 20” x 24” Frame: 26.5” x 30.5” Nice newer frame Condition: Painting shows old touch up or inpainting to middle ground area-Mostly but not limited to, around wheel and around bottom of left kitties paws and above kitties head(background). Uncertain if artist did this at a later date or someone else. Painting also has frame abrasions, paint loss, rubbing, age cracks, crazing and or craquelure, some mild toning from age, stretcher bar tension lines, tension lines, little tiny white spots or stains, yellow paint spots and or stains, mild bloom around wheel, mild paint flecks or paint chips, abrasions/abrasion lines to canvas, mold and or mildew spotting on back of canvas. Debris and dust behind keys. Other mild wear from age. Painting is beautiful! In my opinion tension lines are the most visible wear and close up the age cracks are noticeable as well. Painting is close to 100 years old so wear is to be expected! Cutest kitties! I adore this painting! Hangs very nicely! Frame condition: mild wear, a little paint loss, some paint chips, scuffs, tiny dings and scratches from use. Overall in good condition. Painting is sold as-is.
