Description: Vintage IBM 9922 Document Viewer Model 2 For Sale- a Vintage IBM 9922 Document Viewer Model 2, or II, or 2B depending on where you look. According to Wikipedia it will display micro fiche, jackets or aperture cards and because of the screen size (14x22) could display two adjacent documents. When I first started selling stuff of ebay, back around the turn of the century, I did a pretty brisk business in fiche readers in general, but they were a pain to ship because of all the glass and then the prices dropped to the point they just weren’t worth messing with. This thing is a BEAST in comparison, 18 ½” x23 x25. So the shipping will be even more of an issue and I don’t generally have boxes large enough for something like this on hand, so please be patient while I find one. The machine powers on and lights up and the front/rear and side to side adjustments work as does the focus. The only thing not up to par is the brightness, might just need a new bulb but I suspect the lens assembly over the lamp needs cleaning. I wiped off the top glass piece and that helped a lot but I suspect that all the other lenses need to be cleaned off as well, plus the optical lens too. I do NOT know the magnification of the lens, will try to fish that out. Not going to try to clean the other parts unless someone actually buys the thing (and asks me to). This was a $400 machine when it was new in the 60’s and I have never seen another one despite buying and selling probably a hundred other fiche readers. So a rare piece to say the least. They are based on an estimated weight of 65 pounds in a box 30x28x22. That’s bordering on an OS3 surcharge, so I can’t really make it any bigger or any smaller. So I can’t really do anything with the shipping cost which is likely to be outrageous. Please come and pick it up instead and save us both a lot of headaches. I live a block off the beach on the Outer Banks of NC, come and take a swim too (in season).
