HTF 1963 Hartland MINNESOTA VIKINGS, Backfield, Condition: Statue Ex, Box Gd

Description: In the post-war era, Hartland Plastics dived into the popular Western themed TV shows in 1953 and developed a series of Cowboy character toys and horse figures for children made of acetate- based plastic and painted them with acetate-based paint, leaving a smooth finish from one color to another. The figures were molded in two halves and glued together. In 1958 Hartland introduced their highly popular series of Baseball statues of top stars. With the subsequent success of the MLB statues, in 1962 Hartland decided to test market two NFL sports figures – Johnny Unitas and Jon Arnett (1 was popular on the east coast and one on the west coast). With the acceptance of these two at $2.49 each, all 14 NFL teams at the time were subsequently given a generic running back (for sale in this listing) and a lineman the following year, making a total of 30 different figures. Each box contained an 8” figurine mounted on a green base with the team name in gold with its logo on the front edge. Reportedly 5000 of each figure were produced, but some are almost impossible to find today. Boxes are even more RARE due to their light and flimsy nature. After all, these are over 60 years old and were made as toys at the time. This figurine is from my complete collection which is now being listed on Ebay individually. Statue is listed as "Used", but is in nice condition, with only a few signs of wear. The box still has the front display flap covered, with slight cellophane damage inside. Inside top flap needs taping. Overall, decent. Please closely examine the photos to see exactly what you are looking to purchase. The photos are a critical part of the Condition Description. The figure and box will be packed very carefully, enclosed in multiple layers of bubble wrap, and quickly sent in a new heavy duty cardboard box.
