Description: This helmet was used by one (1) Chicago fire fighter for his entire career. It has it's unique 1968 Democratic National Convention "riot clips" fastened to the underside of the rim (This was an added-on item after original purchase). The one-piece side & rear ear & rear head protection (with no front plex-a-glass) is also available upon request. Some cracks had to filled-in to prevent excessive dry rioting because this helmet was in a lot of fires on a daily biases. This helmet could be still worn to this day, but it is recommended that it be retired & placed on display only. The official Cairns & Brothers serial number is: 44746 but the edge of the tag is turnoff where it would have displayed 7-1/4" or 7-3/8" for the size. (Actual dimensions are: 7-7/8" Long & 6-1/2" Wide or 24" in circumference) P.S. I wear a 7-1/4" head-size & it fits me like a glove.
