Description: THIS EARLY 20TH CENTURY NORTHWEST COAST NATIVE AMERICAN BASKET WITH LID AND HANDLES WAS MADE BY THE QUINAULT TRIBE IN WHAT IS NOW THE WASHINGTON OLYMPIC PENINSULA. IT WAS MOST LIKELY MADE IN THE 1930S FOR THE TOURIST TRADE. THE HANDLES ALLOW FOR IT TO BE CARRED ON YOUR ARM BUT THEY DO NOT COME TOGETHER TO GRASP WITH A HAND. THE COVER USED TO HAVE A CENTER LOOP, NOW MOSTLY GONE. 12 1/2"DIA, 7"DEEP, 15"ACROSS HANDLES, 12"FROM BOTTOM TO TOP OF HANDLE WHEN HANDLE IS FULLY UPRIGHT. IT IS IN AS FOUND CONDITION, THE FOUNDATION IS GOOD AND INTACT. THE RAFFIA WEAVING IS MISSING IN PLACES THAT HAVE RUBBED; FOR INSTANCE, ALL AROUND BOTTOM EDGE AND WHERE HANDLES RUBBED TOP, SEE PICS. THERE ARE ALSO LOOSE STICHES HERE AND THERE. LOOP IN CENTER OF TOP PARTIALLY MISSING AS MENTIONED. PURPLE IS FADED ON EXTERIOR CONSISTANT WITH AGE.
