Together with her faithful old servant, Johnny Jutes, she sets out to rough it with as much comfort as possible. As they slowly meander from the wilds of New England to the wilds of Florida this quiet plan gets hijacked with henchmen from the tiny principality of Houdania, who think she's in come way connected with their country's affairs. Diane manages to be blissfully ignorant of foreign diplomats, coded messages, and attempts on her life, while her sworn knight Philip Poynter travels along in a hay wagon and keeps watch over her. "THE LOVABLE MEDDLER: "A country doctor can't help but meddle in the affairs of those around him, and the results grow continually worse as he promises not to meddle again, yet does...just one more time. I love the stories of country doctors of long-ago days anyway (Deland's Dr. Lavendar and Richmond's Red Pepper Burns, for example), but to have this quaint aging Scotsman set out to matchmaking was hilarious and dear and sweet." A fine addition for your bookshelf!Condition: Diane of the Green Van shows moderate wear with corners lightly bumped, name in the front, some bent page tips, significant foxing in the margins of the latter half of book, otherwise in good condition with a solid binding. The Lovable Medler shows some wear with fraying at corner tips and spine ends, lower front corner bumped, rear endpaper cracked at the hinge but re-glued and firm, otherwise in good condition with a solid binding and clean pages. Note: The letter/number at the end of the title line for this listing is just an inventory code for locating the book.ShippingFree Domestic Economy Shipping!Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list!About Us:Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. We have been sellers of antiquarian books for over 20 years, and our experience helps ensure quality descriptions of our rare and collectable books. Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free. We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do.Customer Service:Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help. Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us!Packaging:We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.Delivery: We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
