He reports on the great harvest of corn, wheat, grass & oats, and the grape crops, news from friends in Vinton, "one of the pleasantest cities in the state", the Des Moines is building a new bridge across the River, to replace the one washed out by a flood. Dr Tilton Elkins was the son of Revolutionary War notable Captain Samuel Elkins of Andover, NH.
