Dunlap History: Dunlap was a Sears & Roebuck store brand for tools. The story is that Tom Dunlap assumed control of the hardware division of Sears in 1937. The goal was to furnish Sears customers a lower cost alternative to the Craftsman brand. Tom was determined to provide an attractive as well as quality tool. This was done through strict quality controls and the use of proven tool companies. There was never a Dunlap factory. All tools were contracted through Sears from companies such as Danielson or Moore Drop Forge. Dunlap tools began appearing in Sears catalogs in the 1938-1939 Fall and Winter edition, and they continued to be offered into the early 1960s. Tools marked "Made in Germany" likely date from this period, particularly before World War II. Anything after WW II would be marked W. Germany
