Charles Emile Jacque - Oil painting - Barbizon France 8" x 10"

Description: Artist; Charles Emile Jacque Medium; Oil on BoardSize; 8" x 10" -- visible paintingSize in frame; 12"x 14"-- overall with frame includedExcellent Condition -- signed lower left. Charles Emile Jacque was among the first generation of painters to leave the city for the forest of Fontainebleau and helped to establish the Barbizon School. Born in 1813 in Paris, he began his training in etching. He made his Salon debut in 1833, and regularly contributed paintings until 1870 -- winning medals for both etching and painting. During the 1840s, he and his friend, Jean-Francois Millet moved to the village of Barbizon where they felt they could more realistically portray nature. Jacque bought a house there and found his inspiration in hen-houses, pigsties and flocks of sheep at pasture -- this painting is an excellent example. Warning: Here is a sales pitch--- I am old and selling off "treasures" collected over the years -- why not buy a painting by a historically famous artist, with an outstanding auction record, rather than some living "new and upcoming artist" whose work is promoted in a gallery? Okay, that's the end of my sales pitch and soap box. Please look at my other Jacque painting up for purchase; it is larger and more pastoral.
