In the year 1863, according to official reports, he collected in Michigan & forwarded through the U.S. Sanitary Commission at Chicago for distribution in the field: 2337 barrels of vegetables, 167 barrels of onions, 29 barrels of best stock ale & over $3000 for the purchase of vegetables. Samuel Day (b. 1808) was a Congregationalist minister from Ann Arbor, MI. He served as Chaplain of the 8th IL from 1/28/62 – 1/29/65 and asMilitary Agent for U. S. Sanitary Supplies for the USSC.
