Description: Rare original antique engraving print from an 1860s illustrated journal. It depicts two contrasting views of the life of Catholic Nuns. It compares it to the drudgery of daily life in reality. It refers to the Hull Convent scandal in England. Sister Mary Scholastica (Susan Saurin) was a Catholic nun in a convent near Hull England. She was expulsed from the convent, and successfully sued the Mother Superior and convent for slander. It exposed the sad and difficult life of many Catholic nuns at the time. The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The picture fills most of it, measuring about 9 x 13 inches, with a caption below it. The page has a half-inch stain in the lower right margin. There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition. This print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
