The obverse of the banknote features Cape Verdean writer and professor Antonio Aurelio Goncalvez, a medallion composed of dragon tree leaves, and a holographic inkwell with a quill. The reverse of the note depicts the scenery of Chanzinha which includes a dragon tree on the island of Sao Nicolau. The banknote bears a hand holding a pen as its registration device. It also has a solid security thread and a 4-mm windowed security thread with a demetalized BCV 1000. Furthermore, the 136 x 66 mm paper bill has a watermark that shows Antonio Aurelio Goncalvez with an electrotype 1000.
