Description: World famous Bushnell "Rangemaster" 7x35. From my personal collection. Rangemaster was OEM'd by several different manufacturers, this one is made by Katsuma Kogaku Kikai Co.Ltd, sometime in the 70's. The Katsuma OEM is not commonly encountered! Color is gray and black. It has a huge, wide, flat field, and an immersive 11 degree field of view. It uses high index poro prisms. It has magnesium-fluoride coatings; everything appears coated. Unlike any other binoculars I have tested, it exhibits no "black out" effects due to eye position: the eye lenses are HUGE. This makes it very easy to look through, and less sensitive to shaking (or maybe it's the massive weight damping the tremors...). It imparts an odd "3d immersion" kind of visual effect I have seen in no other binocular - likely due to the very wide objective separation at this power. It's like you've been dropped off in a point in space. The view at night is *stunning*. I have no problem seeing the entire view (myoptic, without glasses). Weight is 36 oz. This is big downside to this binocular - you will want to mount it to a tripod / L adapter, unless you lift weights as a pastime. It has 1/4-20 mounting hole for this purpose under a screw-off cover in the front hinge. The weight is due to the enormous prisms and eyepieces. You don't get this optical effect for free, I guess. Optical quality is 9/10. There is a minor (0.2mm circular) coating imperfection on the left front lens. There are a few small dusts visible on the inside. No optical issues are noticed under laser observation, no misalignment, no lens separation, no fungus, no rattles. It has very little field curvature, not visible chromatic errors. Some haze in direct sunlight as there is no shade for the front lenses. There is some ding on the aluminum on both lens housings. The case has some minor abrasions (see pics). These have a considerable lore. Supposedly David Bushnell went to Fuji and said - make me the best binocular you can, don't worry a about the price. This (or an earlier version of this bino) was the result. It would have retailed around $2,000 (in modern inflated currency). Supposedly they were used in the US war against Vietnam, in some type of counter-insurgency context. Money back guarantee in the US (you pay return shipping). Ships international to some locations. If you want a modern, cheaper, lighter, ultrawide set of binoculars in excellent condition check out my other auctions.
