Description: I recently “rescued” this interesting item from the basement of a local estate here in central Virginia. It took me some time to figure out exactly what it is, but I sincerely believe this to be a genuine Native American artifact hand-made in the mid- to late-1950’s. This bowl measures 5” (five inches) in diameter at its widest point and almost 3” (three inches) in height. The actual diameter of the opening and the base is 3.25”. The bowl weighs 1 lb. 2 oz (one pound, two ounces). There is no obvious damage (no cracks, no chips) but there is a little bit of scuffing and/or marring on the slip – see pics. Scrawled in pencil on the base of the bowl are the words Blue Corn San Ildefonso Pueblo – I assume hand-written by the original (late) owner for identification and/or provenance purposes. Thank goodness for this inscription or it would have taken me ten times longer to figure things out on my own!
