This piece was created by ceramic artist Fujii Kinsei. "Daikōsonju" Kyoya-bansho Site Walking from the streets of Arita Uchiyama towards Izumiyama, a large Ginkgo tree catches the eye. This Ginkgo, known as "Daikōsonju," is located within the precincts of the Izumiyama Benzaiten Shrine. It is possibly Japan's oldest Ginkgo tree, estimated to be around 1,000 years old, standing at 40m tall with a trunk circumference of 18m and branches spanning 31m east to west. During the "Arita Porcelain Festival" held from mid to late November, the leaves of the giant tree turn yellow, creating a romantic walkway with a yellow carpet at its base. Tombai Fence As you walk through the town, you'll notice unique fences that exude a special atmosphere. These fences, called Tombai fences, are made using stones that were reused from old kilns. The wisdom of life passed down through generations is evident throughout the town. It's interesting to imagine who and what kinds of pottery were once fired in those kilns as you stroll around.
