Description: Offered is a rare, large and lovely victorian transferware platter produced by Josiah Wedgwood and Sons (England). The pattern is SEAWEED. The nature-themed design features brown ocean seaweed floating on a cream-coloured background. Impressed on the back is WEDGWOOD and the manufacture date code (1878, per ThePotteries.org). The large platter - approx 18 1/4" x 14 1/4" - is hard to find. It is in good to very good antique condition. The finish is glossy with few lines on front - suggesting the platter was mostly displayed/stored rather than used as a serving piece. Some minor imperfections in keeping with age, No cracks or crazing. No chips - but one end (edge of the rim, glaze on the back of the rim) has been scraped. (See photos.) We ship throughout Canada and the US via the postal service. Parcel tracking information will be provided.
