Description: Antique Hexagon Textured Glass Tulip Light Shade with Stars and Beaded String Pattern Classic tulip shape. Six sided (hexagon) with slightly curved beaded edges. Raised stars with beaded strings (string of pears) on a textured background pattern throughout.Textured (stippled) on the outside and smooth glossy on the inside.2 1/4" fitter.Measures 4" tall and 4" wide (flat edge to flat edge) and 4 11/16" wide (point to point).Excellent flawless condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. The glass has a very faint pinkish hue to it (almost imperceptible). This is likely due to the affect known as "solarization." Which dates the glass from about the mid 1800s to the early 1900s. In the mid 1800s manganese dioxide, popularly called "glassmaker's soap," began to be used by American glass manufacturers as a decolorizer. A characteristic of colorless glass which contains manganese dioxide is its tendency to turn different shades of purple when exposed to the rays of the sun or to other ultra-violet sources. This process is sometimes reversible by gently heating the glass to about 200°C. The use of manganese oxide for decolorizing glass generally ceased in the early 1900s.
