Description: Carved stone head of unknown date and origin. Very well observed sculpture of an Indigenous man of striking profile. This item was recently acquired from the estate of renowned entrepreneur, turtle conservationist, art collector and world traveler, Eric Goode. In his collection were many other interesting items, including pre-Columbian and African artifacts, antique native materials, and artworks from around the world. (More info about Mr. Goode is available online -- including how he produced and directed Tiger King on Netflix.) Goode's travels were/are predominately to tropical counties where rare and endangered turtles live, so it's likely that this item comes from such an area, perhaps Central or South America. (The cranial shape seems Mayan.) Please check my other listings for more rare and unusual items from this estate. Stone is whitish with a light grey-green hue -- limestone? Carving appears to be made with primitive handtools; incisions and pits have a reddish-brown patina. (NB: Last photo in listing was taken through a magnifying glass to show detail of carving.) Bust measures approximately 6 x 5 x 5 inches. Weight is about 4 lbs. Overall good condition with scuffs and scratches, weather-wear, etc. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.
