Description: This sterling silver case pair watch features a verge escapement movement, which is ticking, but not running. The watch seems to tick more when oriented on its side. The movement is not filthy, but it is not spotless either, so it could do with cleaning / servicing. The fusee chain looks ok, and the watch is fully wound. ((Update)): I put the watch on its side in a warm room, and it ran for the next ~28-30 hours, so it has mostly unwound itself now. The movement is not signed, but bears a serial number which matches the case serial. The case is dated to 1831 by the assay office date letter. The cases (George Yeates, London) are in good condition generally, although the steel spring clip on the outer case has corroded away - however the outer case still closes quite well, with a good press fit into itself. There's a chip off the opening tab (where you would use your fingernail to open the inner case) on the inner case, but it still opens and closes well. I just use a watch case opener to open it. The movement features a hand pierced balance arm, with engraved grotesque face. The dial is plain faced enamel with roman numerals, the dial has some ever so faint hairline cracks in the enamel, see close up photo, but you have to look very closely to see them and this is normal for a dial of this age. The watch has a beautiful domed mineral glass bullseye crystal. All in all, its a nice original piece, good cosmetically, not too old for a verge escapement watch, and should be a good candidate to bring back to proper running order. The inner case is about 50.5 mm in diameter, and the outer about 56 mm. See my other listings. I combine postage when possible. To be sent tracked.
